Cool dude photographer Stephen Allinger is behind the lens in capturing a super neat opportunity to launch a weather balloon.

It was a beautiful day to fill a giant balloon with helium and release it into the atmosphere.

Numbers:

The balloon is 600 grams.

My launch reached a termination pressure of 9.6 hectopascals.

I climbed atop our primary science building and snapped these photos one afternoon as I was not yet permitted to go hiking around. There is a mandatory outdoor safety lecture one must attend before it is permissible to venture offsite.

With my safety lecture complete, even cooler photos are forthcoming.

The basics of the safety lecture: if you're cold, retreat to established emergency shelters to warm up. Don't get frostbite: bad stuff happens if you get it. Also don't climb on some of these rocks yet because they are steep and glaciated and you will be sad if you fall. Basically the same story as any Cascade peak.
